How the USMC PFT Calculator Formula Works
The Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test has three events: pull-ups or push-ups, a plank hold and a three mile run. Each event is scored from the minimum standard for your age group and sex, worth 40 points, up to the maximum standard, worth 100 points. Push-ups are the exception, worth at most 70 points, and women's pull-ups start at 60 points.
Between the minimum and the maximum the points follow a straight line, rounded to the nearest point. If a male Marine aged 17 to 20 does 17 pull-ups, with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 20, the points are 40 + 60 × (17 − 4) / 16 = 88.75, which the table shows as 89. The 3 mile run works the same way on time, in 10 second steps, and the plank uses a single table of times and points for everyone.
Add the three events for the total score of up to 300. A total of 150 passes, provided each event is at or above its minimum. The classes are 1st class for 235 to 300, 2nd for 200 to 234 and 3rd for 150 to 199. The tables here are from Marine Corps Order 6100.13A with changes through CH-5, and this is an unofficial estimate.
event points = 40 + (100 − 40) × (performance − minimum) / (maximum − minimum), rounded; total = upper body + plank + run; pass at 150 or more with every event at its minimum- sex and age groupSets the standards for pull-ups, push-ups and the run.

A Real Worked Example
A male Marine aged 21 to 25 does 15 pull-ups, holds a plank for 3:00 and runs the 3 miles in 21:00. In Table 2-2, 15 pull-ups in his age group is 73 points.
A 3:00 plank is 82 points and a 21:00 run is 81 points. The total is 73 + 82 + 81 = 236, which is 1st class by one point.
A woman aged 17 to 20: 4 pull-ups, 2:30, 26:00
A female Marine aged 17 to 20 does 4 pull-ups, with a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 7. Her minimum is worth 60 points, so 4 pull-ups is 80 points.
A 2:30 plank is 70 points and a 26:00 run is 69 points. The total is 219, 2nd class, 16 points short of 1st class.
A man aged 26 to 30 with 70 push-ups
A male Marine aged 26 to 30 does 70 push-ups, with a minimum of 39 and a maximum of 84, scored from 40 to 70 points. That is 61 points.
A 2:00 plank is 59 points and a 24:00 run is 64 points. The total is 184, 3rd class. Push-ups cap at 70, so 1st class would be harder than with pull-ups.
A woman aged 31 to 35: 40 push-ups
A female Marine aged 31 to 35 does 40 push-ups, with a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 46, so 64 points. A 2:15 plank is 65 points and a 27:30 run is 63 points.
The total is 192, 3rd class, and she needs 43 more points for 1st class.
A man aged 41 to 45: 12 pull-ups
A male Marine aged 41 to 45 does 12 pull-ups, with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 20, so 68 points. A 2:45 plank is 76 points and a 22:00 run is 81 points.
The total is 225, 2nd class, 10 points short of 1st class.
Below the push-up minimum
A male Marine aged 17 to 20 does 41 push-ups. The minimum for his group is 42, so the event earns no points and fails.
Even with a 2:00 plank (59) and a 24:00 run (63), the total of 122 is below 150, and any single failed event fails the whole test.
A perfect 300
A male Marine aged 17 to 20 does 20 pull-ups, the maximum, holds a 3:45 plank and runs 18:00. Each event earns 100 points.
The total is 300, 1st class. Only pull-ups can reach 100, since push-ups cap at 70.
What Else to Know
What the PFT Calculator Does
The Physical Fitness Test measures upper body strength, core strength and endurance with three events: pull-ups or push-ups, a plank and a 3 mile run. The calculator scores each event from the tables in Marine Corps Order 6100.13A, adds them up and shows the class.

You give your sex, your age group, the upper body event you did, and your repetitions, plank time and run time. It returns the points for each event, the total out of 300, the class, and how many points you are from 1st class.

It is an independent, unofficial estimate. The official Marine Corps calculator is on Marine Online.
How Each Event Is Scored
Every event has a minimum standard worth 40 points and a maximum worth 100, and the points in between follow a straight line, rounded to the nearest point. Push-ups are the exception: they top out at 70 points. Women's pull-ups start at 60 points.
The formula was checked against every row of the order's run, pull-up and push-up tables, covering both sexes and all eight age groups, and it reproduces each table value. The plank uses one table of times and points for everyone.
So a male aged 17 to 20 with 17 pull-ups gets 89 points, from a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 20.
Pull-Ups, Push-Ups and the Points Cap
The upper body event is a choice. Pull-ups can earn up to 100 points. Push-ups earn at most 70, so a Marine who does push-ups can score at most 270 in total. The order says Marines should be encouraged to do pull-ups.

The standards table lists the minimum and maximum repetitions for every age group, men and women. Men's pull-up maximum is 20 at 17 to 20 and 23 from 21 to 35, and women's is 7 at 17 to 20 and 12 at 26 to 30.

The pull-up and push-up tables show the points for common repetition counts.
The Plank
Change 4 to the order, in force since January 1, 2022, set the plank maximum at 3 minutes 45 seconds for 100 points and the minimum at 1 minute 10 seconds for 40 points. Table 2-4 lists the points for every step in between, a point for every two or three seconds.

The plank table is neutral for age and sex, so it is the same for a 19 year old man and a 45 year old woman. The full table is printed above so you can check a time.
Hold times are given in minutes and seconds, so enter both.
The 3 Mile Run
The run table lists times in 10 second steps for each age group and sex. Men aged 17 to 40 earn 100 points at 18:00 and women at 21:00, with later maximums for the older groups. The minimum run time is 27:40 for men aged 17 to 25 and 30:50 for women of the same ages.

This calculator gives a time between two steps the slower step, so 18:05 scores as 18:10. The official calculator decides how an exact second is scored.
The run standards table lists the 100 point and minimum times for all eight age groups.
Classes and Passing
Table 2-1 sets the classes: 1st class for 235 to 300, 2nd for 200 to 234 and 3rd for 150 to 199. A total of 150 is the lowest passing score, but the order also says failing the minimum in any single event fails the whole test, whatever the total.

The calculator reports how many events are below their minimum, whether the test is passed, the class, and the points still needed for 1st class.

The score mix table shows how different combinations of pull-ups, plank and run add up for a man aged 21 to 25.

Frequently Asked Questions About the USMC PFT Calculator
How is the USMC PFT score calculated?
Add the points from three events: pull-ups or push-ups, the plank and the 3 mile run. Each event is scored from 40 points at the minimum to 100 at the maximum, except push-ups, which cap at 70. The totals give 1st, 2nd or 3rd class. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
What is a passing PFT score?
The minimum combined score to pass is 150, and every event must reach its own minimum. The order says additional points beyond the minimums are needed in at least one event to reach 3rd class, and failing any single event fails the whole test. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
What are the PFT classes?
MCO 6100.13A Table 2-1 gives 1st class as 235 to 300 points, 2nd class as 200 to 234 and 3rd class as 150 to 199. The same classes apply to all age groups. The calculator shows the class and the points needed for 1st class. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
What is a perfect PFT score?
300 points, which needs 100 points in pull-ups, 100 in the plank and 100 in the run. Push-ups are capped at 70 points, so with push-ups the best possible total is 270. A male 17 to 20 earns 100 with 20 pull-ups, a 3:45 plank and a run of 18:00. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
Are push-ups worth the same as pull-ups?
No. Pull-ups can earn up to 100 points, while push-ups earn at most 70. The order says Marines are encouraged to do pull-ups and that the highest points on the event come only from pull-ups. You cannot combine the two scores. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
How many pull-ups for 100 points?
It depends on age and sex. For men the maximum is 20 for ages 17 to 20, 23 for 21 to 35, then 21, 20, 19 and 18 for older groups. For women it is 7, 11, 12, 11, 10, 8, 6 and 4. The standards table lists every group. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
How many push-ups for the maximum 70 points?
The maximum is 82 for men aged 17 to 20 and 87 for 21 to 25, falling to 64 for 51 and over. For women it is 42 at 17 to 20, 48 at 21 to 25 and 50 at 26 to 30, falling to 38 at 51 and over. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
What plank time earns 100 points?
A plank of 3:45 earns 100 points, and the minimum of 40 points is 1:10, according to Table 2-4 as changed by CH-4. The plank table is one table for both sexes and every age. Each step of about two or three seconds is worth a point. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
What run time earns 100 points?
For men it is 18:00 for ages 17 to 40, then 18:30, 19:00 and 19:30 for older groups. For women it is 21:00 for ages 17 to 40, then 21:30, 22:00 and 22:30. The run standards table lists the 40 point minimums too. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
What is the minimum 3 mile run time?
For men aged 17 to 25 it is 27:40, rising to 28:00, 28:20, 28:40, 29:20, 30:00 and 33:00 for older groups. For women aged 17 to 25 it is 30:50, rising to 36:00 at 51 and over. Slower than the minimum fails the event. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
What if my run time falls between table steps?
The run table lists times in 10 second steps. This calculator gives a time between steps the slower step, so 18:05 scores as 18:10. The official calculator is the authority for how an exact second is scored. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
What are the minimums for each event?
Each event has a minimum for each age group and sex, worth 40 points (60 for women's pull-ups). For men aged 21 to 25 that is 5 pull-ups or 40 push-ups, a 1:10 plank and a 27:40 run. Missing any one fails the test. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
Why do women get 60 points for the minimum pull-ups?
The order sets the minimum for women's pull-ups at 60 points, while all other event minimums are 40 points. The calculator follows Table 2-2, so a woman aged 17 to 20 with 1 pull-up earns 60 and with 7 earns 100. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
Which age group do I use?
Use the age group for your age on the test date: 17-20, 21-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40, 41-45, 46-50 or 51 and over. The order says the 17 to 20 group is used to score all recruits, whatever their age. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
Does the calculator include altitude or the row?
No. The order has separate tables for runs at 4,500 feet or more above sea level and for a 5,000 meter row alternative. This calculator covers the standard 3 mile run only, so use the official tables for those. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
Is the plank age neutral?
Yes. The order states the plank table is neutral for age and sex, with one table for both men and women regardless of age. Only the pull-up, push-up and run tables change with age group and sex. This is an unofficial estimate from the tables in the order. Use the official Marine Corps calculator on Marine Online, and your command's scoring, for any real result.
Where is the official calculator?
